Advantages; The standard base kit
The standard base kit is suitable for conservatory (and porch) types known as;
Glass to Ground: fully glazed from floor level up to the roof,
Or
Panelled: fitted with solid panels (either flat or raised design) up to a typical height of 600mm - and double glazed above.
The third and very popular type of conservatory is;
Dwarf Walls: walls of brick or render up to a typical height of 600mm (equals 8 brick courses) - and double glazed above. For this the standard base kit is fitted with Modular Wall Sections (see below).
Technical information
Frame sections - The strength and stability of each steel base lies in it's heavy duty outer frame. Each frame section is constructed of 80mm square box-section steel. The inner (starter) frame section is bolted to the house wall.
Adjustable legs - Away from the house the outer frame sections are supported by adjustable legs of 20mm dia threaded steel bar, each welded at the lower end to a nut which sits upon a steel spreader plate.
Floor joists - These support the floor and are constructed of 40mm wide x 80mm high box steel section which are fixed to 'U' shaped brackets welded onto the frame sections. To minimise flex on long floor joists there are also intermediate supports - short sections of 40mm x 80mm box steel with a flange at each end and a central fixing point for an adjustable leg.
Under-floor insulation - For under-floor insulation, between the joists, sheets of 50mm thick poystyrene insulating foam are supplied. These are supported by ledges welded to the frame sections - and, in the centre of the base, by 'top hat' shaped brackets which are hooked over the floor joists.
Flooring - This consists of 18mm V313 moisture-resistant tongue and groove flooring grade chipboard. This is suitable to accept the customer's choice of final flooring (not included) which may be -
Laminate flooring - on top of 2mm foam sheet Carpeting - conventionally secured with 'gripper rods'.
Tiles - provided they are the right type for a slightly-flexing floor and are fixed with a flexible glue and grouted with a flexible grout. Take advice from your specialist tiling supplier in this respect.
The Skirt - This refers to the material around the outside edge of the base and below the cill of the conservatory. The height is commonly 150mm (two brick heights) but may be more. (for example if the ground slopes downwards away from the house). Two options are available. UPVC cladding is the low-cost option, or for a luxury finish real brick slips on a durable, rigid and inert backing sheet are available.
